UN DEFINITION
IDF Internally displaced persons (also known as "IDPs") are "persons or groups of persons who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of or in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalised violence, violations of human rights or natural or human-made disasters, and who have not crossed an internationally recognised border.

TASK
Build a shelter as simply as a can using the mylar shock blanket.
2. I placed the mylar blanket lengthways over some strung up with fishing wire. The clear wire was strung between two screws placed 563mm up opposing walls. That height created an equilateral triangle when the sides of the tend were extended from the centre at 600mm lengths.
3. Looking at the shelter it seemed just long enough to cover my body so I went inside whilst recording on with go pro. I noticed that the blanket allowed me to see out from within but as per the photos the reflection stop one from looking in. I felt invisible drawing parallels to how IDP’s may feel inside their own protective shelter. After 10 minutes I came out and felt relief from the heat build up from laying within the mylar.
DRAWING
This drawing was made on a sheet of perspex covered on both sides by layers of paint accumulated when used as a palette. This palatte holds the traces from erasure drawings on the studio walls and on fabric. After researching IDP and Refugee shelters I made notes of key words, and concepts by scoring through the surface of the white paint with a nail un vailing UN sky blue behind. It speaks to some visual I saw on instagram which showed a small boy and grandmother waving a white peace flag whilst crossing an open space. They were shot and killed by the IDF. Destroying this white surface speaks to a violation of the “pure” and innocent.
